Excellent review from photographer Kirk Tuck on the Visual Science Lab website

Published by sJones on March 22nd, 2012

K. B. Dixon’s book The Photo Album burst into the photography community this week with a review from well known photographer Kirk Tuck.  Tuck runs the popular photography website Visual Science Lab where he shares his picture taking expertise with other photographers.   He is the author and photographer of 5 photo books and has taught photography at the university level.

Tuck writes, “It’s the kind of book that you can pick up, read until the sun sets or your glass of wine becomes empty, then bookmark; knowing you’ll pick it up again soon and that you needn’t remember the precise plot points of a complex narrative to enjoy your next dip into smartly written and questioning vignettes of everyday life through the eyes of a photographer.

There are so few books like this.  And there are so few that are written as well for photographers of a certain age and experience.  If you like the Visual Science Lab it is my opinion
that you will love this little book.”  Click here to read the entire review.

K. B. Dixon’s book The Ingram Interview is reviewed by critic extraordinaire Bob Hicks on ArtScatter.com

Published by sJones on February 3rd, 2012

Bob Hicks, esteemed arts writer, editor and critic, writes “The pleasures in Dixon’s novel come mostly from the perverse mundanity of Ingram’s self-revelation as he unrolls his laconic story”.  Hicks describes Dixon as a “brittle writer, and this is a brittle book.  But when it cracks, it’s a good idea to listen: It’s the sound of civilization, quietly if provisionally breaking apart.”

Hicks retired in 2007 after several decades writing about theater, dance, visual arts, movies, music and food for The Oregonian and The Oregon Journal.  ArtScatter.com is a website dedicated to cultural materials and the meaning and purpose reflected in the creation and observation of art.  To read the entire review click here.

Evolutionaries: Transformational Leadership, Receives a Stellar Review on Amazon

Published by Steve on January 17th, 2012

Everyone wants good reviews on Amazon, and Evolutionaries: Transformational Leadership: The Missing Link in your Organizational Chart, by Carmen Voilleque and Randy Harrington, received a whopper. The review was written by Lawrence B. Rosenfeld, from the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The review includes, “This book offers an approach that is itself transformative. Consider that the usual approach to assessing good leadership requires little more than an examination of the “bottom line.” Good evolutionary leadership is much more. In a fascinating section on “Meta-Planning,” the authors describe a technique in which an organization’s entire ecosystem–the contexts in which the organization is situated–are brought into the planning process, resulting in plans that have the potential to change not only the organization, but the industry and the community and beyond the community. This is not your usual book on leadership!” Read the full review.

Interview with Brian Anderson, author of the Godling Chronicles, Provides Writer’s Insight

Published by Steve on January 17th, 2012

Brian Anderson, Inkwater author, was recently interviewed on the blogging site We Do Write. This site interviews writers and provides updates on their publication journeys. Along with questions about The Godling Chronicles, Brian is asked about his approach to writing, what he finds hardest about writing and what he must have when writing (hint: coffee & smokes). Brian also describes the collaboration with his son on developing the plot and other elements of the book. As a true look into his psyche, Brian reveals that if he could have just one super power it would be the ability to spell without the need for Spellcheck.
